# CPL Winners: Every Champion from 2013 to 2025

Every Caribbean Premier League champion from 2013 to 2025 with the runner-up and the winning margin, read from the ball-by-ball record of all thirteen finals.

Fourteen Caribbean Premier League seasons have been played since 2013, and thirteen of them have a champion in the ball-by-ball archive.

- Trinbago Knight Riders have won four titles, and the same franchise won a fifth in 2015 under its earlier name, Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel.
- Jamaica Tallawahs have three. Barbados Tridents have two. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Lucia Kings have one each.
- Guyana Amazon Warriors have reached eight finals and lost seven of them — more finals and more defeats than any other club in the league.
- The 2026 final is not in the archive yet, so this list stops at 2025.

## Every CPL final, 2013 to 2025

Each row below is one match. The champion, the beaten side and the margin are read from the record of the final itself, not from a summary, so the margin is the one the scorers wrote down.

Six of the thirteen finals were played in Trinidad and four at Providence in Guyana. The rest were in St Kitts, where the 2021 final is recorded under the name of the capital, Basseterre. No final in the list was played in Barbados, Jamaica or St Lucia, even in the seasons those clubs won.

## Five titles under two names

Trinbago Knight Riders won in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2025. The archive also has a 2015 title for Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel, and the two names belong to one franchise: Red Steel appears in every season up to 2015, disappears after it, and Trinbago Knight Riders appears from 2016 onwards. No season contains both.

That detail matters for a winners list. Counted by name, the league looks like it has seven different champions in thirteen seasons. Counted by club, one team has five titles and everyone else has three or fewer. Our [Trinbago Knight Riders season record](/teams/cpl-trinbago-knight-riders) follows the club through both names.

The same thing happens further down the table. St Lucia entered as the Zouks, played 2017 and 2018 as the Stars, went back to Zouks in 2019 and became the Kings in 2021 — the name under which they won in 2024. Barbados played as the Tridents until 2020 and as the Royals from 2021, then appear as the Tridents again in the 2026 season. A list that treats each name as a separate club will count the Caribbean league as having more winners than it does.

## Guyana and the seven lost finals

Guyana Amazon Warriors have played eight finals: 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2023, 2024 and 2025. They won one, in 2023, by nine wickets over Trinbago Knight Riders. The other seven ended in defeat, which is more finals lost than any other club in this league has played.

Three of those defeats came in a row, in 2023, 2024 and 2025 — a title and then two more finals, all three at Providence, their home ground. Their season-by-season record shows the pattern behind it: they qualify almost every year, which is exactly how a club accumulates finals and, in a one-match decider, defeats.

## How close the finals were

Nine of the thirteen finals were won by the side batting second, and four by the side batting first. The four chases that failed were decided by 27 runs in 2019, 20 in 2015, 8 in 2014 and, in 2026 terms, nothing closer: eight runs is the narrowest runs margin in the list.

The tightest finals by wickets all ended the same way. Three of them were won with three wickets in hand — 2017, 2021 and 2025 — and each of those three had a different champion. No CPL final in the archive has been decided by fewer than three wickets or fewer than eight runs, which makes this league less prone to one-run endings than the IPL, where two finals were decided by a single run.

## What the toss was worth

The side that won the toss won the final in nine of thirteen matches. In eight of those thirteen the toss winner chose to field, and in five it chose to bat.

Nine out of thirteen looks decisive and is not. On a sample this small the difference between nine and the six or seven you would expect from a coin is one or two matches, which is well inside the range you get from chance alone. It is worth reporting because people ask, and worth flagging because a number this size cannot carry the weight readers put on it.

## What the league table says about the champion

We publish a full points table only when the archive holds every league match of a season. For the CPL that gives five complete tables: 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024. In those five seasons the team that topped the group stage went on to win the title twice.

The 2019 row is the sharpest example in our whole data set. Guyana Amazon Warriors won all ten of their group matches that season — ten wins, no defeats, a net run rate of plus 1.686 — and lost the final by 27 runs. A year later Trinbago Knight Riders went 10-0 in the group stage and did win the title. Two unbeaten group campaigns in the same league in consecutive years, with opposite endings, is as clean a demonstration as this format offers: the table decides seeding, the final decides the trophy.

The 2021 table shows the other way it goes wrong for the leader. Three clubs finished on twelve points and were separated by net run rate, which put St Kitts and Nevis Patriots third — and they won the title. The 2017 table holds the other extreme. St Lucia Stars lost nine matches, won none, and finished the season on a single point earned from a no-result.

## What is missing, and why

Two gaps are worth naming rather than hiding.

The first is the 2026 final. The archive holds 21 matches from the 2026 season and no final among them, because the season is still being played as this page goes out. The champion will be added here once the match is in the record, and the live table sits on our [CPL hub](/leagues/cpl) in the meantime.

The second is the nine seasons without a published points table: 2013 to 2016, 2018, 2022, 2023, 2025 and 2026. A champion comes from one match, so a missing league match does not stop us naming the winner. A table is different — it needs every group match, and where the archive has gaps we leave the table out rather than print a standing that does not add up.

## How we read these results

A champion is taken from the match the archive marks as the final of that season. The margin is the one recorded in the match itself, in runs or wickets, and the runner-up is the other side in that match. Nothing on this page is copied from a league summary or a news report.

Where a club changed name, we say so instead of merging the rows silently. Where a fact is not in the archive — the 2026 champion, or a table for a season with missing matches — the page says that too. ## Where the numbers come from

All thirteen finals come from the ball-by-ball match archive at [Cricsheet](https://cricsheet.org/), used under the Open Data Commons Attribution License 1.0. Every season, margin, venue and toss decision on this page was read from those files on 2 September 2026.

Where the three disagree, the archive wins for numbers and the league wins for names.

## Questions people ask

### Who has won the most CPL titles?

Trinbago Knight Riders, with four titles in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2025. Counting the 2015 title the same franchise won as Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel, it is five.

### Have Guyana Amazon Warriors ever won the CPL?

Yes, once, in 2023, beating Trinbago Knight Riders by nine wickets. They have also lost seven finals, which is the most in the league.

### What was the closest CPL final?

By runs, the 2014 final, which Barbados Tridents won by eight. By wickets, three finals were won with three wickets in hand: 2017, 2021 and 2025.

### Who won the CPL in 2026?

The 2026 final is not in the archive yet, so we do not name a champion for that season. The 2026 schedule and live table are on our CPL hub.

### Why do some seasons have no points table on this site?

Because the archive is missing league matches from those seasons. A champion needs one match, a table needs all of them, so nine CPL seasons have a champion here but no table.
